“Quantity produces quality. If you only write a few things, you're doomed.”

—Ray Bradbury

The Queue’s publication lineup demonstrates our commitment to bring new talent to the attention of a literary world in which too many quality books never see the light of day.

Publication Awards

In addition to the thorough, rigorous assessment given to every manuscript that undergoes a Q‑Critique, The Queue grants publication awards to the best of these manuscripts—regardless of profit potential. Publication awards are granted to outstanding manuscripts on merit alone and without regard to categories or genres—be it business, political nonfiction, popular or literary fiction, young adult or children’s literature, memoir or other.*

Critique editors recommend Level 1 manuscripts to The Queue’s Advisory Board for award consideration. Advisory Board members assess recommended manuscripts and make final determination (via a majority vote) regarding publication awards.

Manuscripts selected for a publication award receive a place on The Queue’s publication lineup (On Queue). They are published at a rate of approximately two titles per year, generally in the order received. Editing, design, printing and appropriate marketing are provided at no cost to the author. They are released as “Queue Edition” books, an imprint of our sister organization, Scarletta Press. Queue Edition books are distributed by Publishers Group West, part of the Perseus Group, one of the largest book distributors in the United States. Queue Edition authors receive industry-competitive author royalties.

*Please note: On Queue authors retain all rights to their work until their manuscript reaches the head of The Queue and is scheduled for publication, at which point a contract is drawn up. Until then, manuscripts are available for acquisition by agents or other publishers at the discretion of the author (see Manuscript Exposure.) While Q‑Critiques include assessment of market potential (to help writers who wish to engage the commercial publishing environment), commercial viability is not a factor in determining The Queue’s publication awards.

The Queue is fundamentally the opposite of self-publishing. It is the gatekeeper of quality writing.
